"Before we arrived in Lapland I had three images in my mind of how I imagined the film was going to look. The ice palace from the first Superman movie, Narnia and something resembling the Scott and Amundson race to the south pole. I think there is a little of each in the final film, but the area is so dramatic that all we had to do was point a camera at the landscape and the scenery did the rest.

The cold only presented one small problem which involved the lens steaming up when we went inside to film the kitchens, I remember the camera man holding it over the stove to try and warm it up while we paced up and down impatiently.

In editing it was important to retain the spirit of the place, the quiet beauty, the vast emptiness and the particular appeal that the arctic circle, with all it’s sparkling prettiness, holds for visitors."
